One step forward in the process of obtaining justice for Nabil Barkati

The so-called transitional justice process that began in the aftermath of the Popular Revolt of 2010-2011 to recognize the responsibilities of the Tunisian State towards the victims of torture under the Bourghiba and Ben Ali regimes, marked a step forward on Friday 27th January.

At the request of the lawyers of the injured parties, including Ridha Barkati (brother of the martyr and communist militant Nabil Barkati) an adjournment session was held on Friday 27 January at the Kef court (north-west of the country) to incorporate further evidence .

About sixty demonstrators filled the courtroom and organized a sit-in in front of the court to pressure the judge to accept these elements, and finally these were effectively implemented (see the video from “Bardo news” here).

Nabil Barkati was one of the last martyrs of the Bourghiba regime in the second half of the 80s (see the interview with Ridha Barkati in italian language here), his brother Ridha Barkati has been fighting for decades through the association “Organization of the Martyr of Freedom Nabil Barkati” whose The main request is that the Ghaffour police station, where his brother was tortured to death, be transformed into an anti-torture museum, with an annexed library.
